Slow Horses and A Very Royal Scandal actress Joanna Scanlan will lead the cast of 5 thriller Missed Call (working title). Claire Keim (Vise le Coeur, Menace sur Kermadec) Rupert Graves (Sherlock, The Burning Girls), François-Xavier Demaison (Disparue, Le Négociateur) and Robert Lindsay (Sherwood, Generation Z) have also joined an ensemble cast. Paris- and London-based producer Pernel Media is producing for Paramount-owned 5, in association with ITV Studios. 

“The script for Missed Call gripped me from the first page,” said Scanlan. “It’s a powerful story about every mother’s worst fear, set in a place that’s stunningly beautiful but weirdly unsettling.”

Channel 5 has made a new series commission, as it continues to add to its growing drama portfolio.

Missed Call (5×60’), a five-part thriller from French production company Pernel Media; the creators of 5 drama The Au Pair. After a worrying late-night missed call from her daughter who is on a school exchange, single mother Sarah travels to the idyllic French village her daughter is meant to be staying in. However, Sarah arrives to find the host family and local police disturbingly unconcerned. Dismissed as a typical teenage disappearance, Katie’s case is ignored—but Sarah knows something is wrong. Her search quickly spirals into a tense and dangerous race against time to uncover the truth before it’s too late.

The series was ordered by Deputy Chief Content Officer and Head of Scripted, Paramount UK, Sebastian Cardwell, and Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor, 5.

France Télévisions has partnered with producer Pernel Media to develop a primetime documentary with factual drama elements, investigating Egypt’s pharaohs.

Explorers of Ancient Egypt is a six-part returnable series based on the latest research on the most iconic pharaohs of all times.

Each episode will feature a major Egyptian site, such as Karnak, the Valley of the Kings or Abu Simbel, allowing viewers to discover through the eyes and emotions of the first explorers through factual dramatisations.

Flashbacks to ancient Egypt will be illustrated using CGI bring iconic pharaohs to life, while archaeologists will use cutting-edge science to explain how they lived.
